Good Morning, my friends! I hope everyone had a great week and weekend. Today is the first Football Sunday in of the year and I am excited for the new season. To kick off the new week on the positive, this is The Workout of the Week, from GoodAttitudeFood.com. This is The Upside Down Frown Workout.
In The Post…
Coming up in the post this week I am writing about a bit of a funk I have been in. There is a brand new pics of the week video, with about two weeks worth of pics because I took last week off from writing for the Labor Day Holiday, and also because I was feeling too down to write a post. More about that coming up. For Football Sunday I am making some Chicken Dumpling Soup in the Instant Pot. Catch the video in this post! Of course I have a great workout too! It will include some shadow boxing, RBFTBs, Sandbag work, Biking, Walking, Discing, and Yoga.
Been Feeling Down
Since the Friday of Labor Day Weekend, I have been feeling pretty down. That Friday I went and threw a round (of Disc Golf) at Oakwood Park. It was a beautiful afternoon. I had a strange premonition or feeling that day that something was going to happen.
BANG!!!
On m way home from Oakwood, while traveling on Highway 494, another vehicle rear-ended my Jeep when traffic came to a sudden stop and the car behind me locked up his brakes.
SCREEEEETCH! BANG!!! BEEEEEEP! BEEEP! BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!
He smoked my Jeep pretty hard. Luckily no one was injured. It was a crazy experience though. Two men actually ran out into the freeway and that is why everyone had to suddenly brake. I was following safely enough and reacted quickly enough that I avoided the vehicle in front of me, despite the high impact hit from behind.
Call 911 – Punks!
The “punk” who hit me and his friends all got out and ran to me, trying to get in my face like it was my fault he rear-ended me. Calling me stupid. Swearing at me. Making aggressive gestures and threatening comments. Punks! You rear-ended me, thank you very much… s-m-h!
I got in my car, locked the doors, and called 911.
Holy Cow!
Then the kid’s car started on fire…
Oh yeah, he hit me so hard his car lit up in flames on the highway.
Craziest thing I have ever been involved in. Holy Cow!
Oh, turns out that guy didn’t have insurance either… In his “$50thousand dollar car.”.
So my Labor Day weekend started off with a BANG.
No Jeep
Now I have been without “Hetti”, aka “Henrietta 2.4”, aka my (was new) 2019 Jeep Renegade with just about 10,000 miles on it, that is now “wrecked”, since September 4th.
The accident did over $8,000 worth of damage to Her! Poor Hetti! 🙁
Glad I Lease
Being without the Jeep stinks. Luckily I have full coverage insurance and the Jeep is leased. I am glad I made the choice to lease, yet again! My insurance covers a rental car for me, but the car doesn’t fit my bike in it. Right now, I am missing my Jeep; big time.
No One Injured
I am glad no one was injured and happy I have a friend who does really good collision work. In contrast, I am pissed that this kid who hit me thought he could be on the road, in a “$50-thousand car”, and not have insurance!
This event is a reminder that as much as I can do on the road to protect myself, I still cannot fully eliminate the threat of other drivers…
COVID-Scare
In addition to that, a close friend has COVID. Yep, one of my homies caught “The Rona”. For me, this is the first person that I actually know and am close to who has gotten it. Although I missed contact with the person, it was by a few hours.
I have not been exposed to the friend who has it, but I was discing with a couple of Kids from the Crew two hours before they had contact with him. For some reason, I decided not to go up to a cabin the next weekend with those same Kids from the Crew. They found out our friend, who they had contact with, caught “The Rona” when they returned from the cabin Labor Day Weekend.
For some reason, I decided to stay in town, and not go to our friend’s cabin with them. (I got in a car accident instead…)
Those Kids don’t have any symptoms and have not been sick. I have been self-quarantining from my entire friend group since we learned that the one friend does have “The Rona”.
And The Spooners
My friend Spooner’s family also recently got hit hard as well. One of my best and oldest friends, “Spooner” lost both his mom and dad within the last few weeks. Ruth and Denny were amazing people. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Spooner family. So sad to hear about your loss. Love you all!
Gloomy Out
On top of the Jeep, and The Rona and self-quarantining from the Kids in the Crew, and my pal’s parents passing away, it has been GLOOMY and cold out in MN this week. It truly felt like the end of summer as temps were in the 40s and 50s and rainy.
Turn That Frown Upside Down Bro!
Yep, time to turn that from upside down. Even if I don’t feel like smiling, making myself smile, makes me feel better.
A great way to get out of a funk is to go out for a walk. Do some “solvitur ambulando-ing”.
“Solvitur Ambulando”
Latin phrase meaning – “It is solved by walking”.
Exercise, as I have learned from living both a sedentary (my 20s) and active lifestyle (my 30s), is one of the best ways to put a smile on your face. It makes me feel good and makes me a happier person. When I don’t exercise, like much of this past week, I do not feel good or happy. I feel down and sad.
Facts
According to an article on NBC news, the facts are that smiling is actually good for us, even if the smile is real or fake. The story indicates that if we make ourselves smile, even if we are not happy, it creates a chemical reaction in our body that makes us happy and has other benefits.
“Science has shown that the mere act of smiling can lift your mood, lower stress, boost your immune system, and possibly even prolong your life.

So, on that note, this week we get The Upside Down Frown Workout. Smile! It’s good for you; even when you don’t feel like it.

The Workout
Dynamic Warm-up
ALWAYS do a dynamic warm-up before exercise, sports, walking, or any other physically strenuous activity. This will get your body ready for the work and help avoid injury. I do the dynamic warm-up from Fight Tips; before disc, biking, walking, any workout, and as part of my morning routine. Check the video and all the other great content from FightTips!
Mon, Wed, Fri – Shadow Boxing, Sandbag and Walking
On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I will be doing some shadow boxing with weighted gloves. 1.5lbs Title brand gloves. Interval timer set to Tabata Intervals; 8 x 20X10. Punch and kick combos for 20-seconds at an 8 out of 10 max intensity. Then defensive moves and boxer shuffle for 10-seconds at about a 5 out 10 intensity. Repeat the set three times with a one-minute break between Tabata sets.
Then I am doing one bonus Tabata set of Sandbag work. Just one set of the Sandbag Workout sets from past posts instead of three sets. A quick burner to keep the muscles rolling, the lungs up, but yet allow for a little more recovery this week. After that, at least 7,000 steps walking each day. Possibly discing when I can!
Tues, Thurs, Sat
Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday will be RBFTBs – Resistance Band FIIT Tabata Burners! Check past posts for the moves. Anchor the resistance band. Rep out three Tabata sets. FIIT Principles again – 8 of 10 max for 20-seconds, rest for 10 seconds but do a boxer shuffle, repeat!
I will also be taking the bike out for a ride, or riding my stationary bike if the weather is bad. The grounds around my little apartment complex where I live have the perfect mountain bike practice area. Hills, Trees, a mix of gravel, grass, and pavement, some jumps, curbs to hop, on more. I have sort of a little track where I ride laps around the building . It’s FUN!
AAaand I will be also be getting in some Yoga stuff on these three days. Probably mix in some Yoga With Adriene, Manflow Yoga, and DDPY.
That’s a Wrap
Alright, my friends, that’s a wrap! Thank you so much for reading! Thank you to the content and article providers! Remember to check out the YouTube page, the Insta page. Leave a comment if you like the post! Or don’t. Either way, SMILE! 🙂
Be happy and healthy my friends. Until next time wear a smile even if your feeling down, science shows it will make you feel better. Turn that from upside down (cheeeeeese!). Be the hero or heroine in your story.
