That’s right folks, I am “Bio-Hacking” my Butter Coffee! And it’s pretty much A-MAZ-ING!
So here is my recipe:
- My mug is about 2 fluid cups – so two cups of black coffee
- 1 tablespoon of Ghee
- 1 scoop of Collagen Peptides
- 1 tablespoon of Brain Octane Oil
- 1 teaspoon (roughly) of organic stevia powder
- a shake or two of Hymalayan Pink Salt Crystals
Most people I see are blending their Butter Coffee. I do not have a blender at the moment. I just use a mug with a tight lid and shake it up. Works like a charm!
So “What the heck is butter coffee and how is this Bio-Hacking?” you might ask.
Well Butter Coffee is just that, putting butter in coffee. I think it all started with BulletProof coffee. I read that the dude who started it (who you can read about in the link) made it up after drinking butter tea. The idea for Bulletproof coffee is to pair caffeine with a fatty oil – like MCT Oil. The caffeine binds to the medium chain triglyceride and thus is released more slowly in the body than if it were just consumed as caffeine in black coffee. The slow release is supposed to allow for less of a spike, and less of a crash, with longer lasting effects from the caffeine.
I have buying Koffee Kult coffee. I found them on Amazon and their coffee is great! I think I am becoming “one of them”, haha!
I started using just regular butter. Then I moved to a Ghee, or clarified butter. Using Ghee feels WAAAY cleaner to me. I found a really delicious Ghee from 4th and Heart (on Amazon), they have different flavors. I have tried the original and now am using the Madagascar Vanilla Bean. It is soooo good! The Ghee is a clean fat, fuel source. It’s like delicious food for the brain!
I started using collagen peptides about two weeks ago. I have been doing research on some ways to improve joint health. I found that collagen is an integral protein in joint health. Unfortunately the body only makes so much. I have put my joints through a lot of the last few years, in my journey to getting healthy. I found that collagen can be found in diet, but the most] common source is things like bone broth. Since I don’t have time to boil bones for hours, I thought I would try supplementing. According to Wikipedia, hyrdolyzed collagen peptides are absorbed at about a 90% rate within one hour of consumption. ** Note that I do not try to supplement most things. I try to find them through diet first.
Brain Octane Fuel is a product available from BulletProof. You could probably sub a coconut oil. This is what helps allow for the “slow, even release” of energy.
I use organic stevia because I have a sweet tooth. Stevia is said to be about 300 times sweeter in flavor than sugar. It’s pretty easy to over-do it. I roughly measure about a teaspoon per 2-cup mug of coffee. Stevia has no caloric effect and adds a great sweetness to my coffee that lets me skip the sugar!
I add a couple shakes of Himalayan Pink Salt Crystals. You can read more about pink salt crystals here. The stuff is salt, but it also contains important minerals, like potassium, magnesium, and calcium.
After just about two months of drinking Butter Coffee, I have lost around 5lbs. I don’t put alot on weight anymore, I have more of overall health and fatloss mindset, vs weightloss, but weight is a good standard to measure. Since doing butter coffee I started at about 162bs, today I was 156.8lbs.
I am also doing intermittent fasting. I am using this butter coffee as my daily breakfast replacement. I do not eat breakfast when drinking this drink. I workout most days. You can check out my weekly workouts on the Good:blog by reading the “WOW” posts.
**Please consult a doctor, do some research before just jumping into a daily workout or butter coffee routine. Remember I am not a doctor, nutritionist, physical therapist, or anything like that. I am just a dude who wants to be healthy, who does research and tries things, and then writes about it! **TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.**
This how I am “Bio-Hacking” my Butter Coffee.
Thanks SO much for reading! Be happy and healthy my friends! Remember, you can be the hero of your own story!
