Good Morning, my friends. I hope everyone had a great week last week. This week’s Post will discuss one of my favorite things to do and why; Disc Golf. The Post will also include my workout schedule for the upcoming week. So, to kick off the new week on the positive, this is The Workout of the Week. This is The My First Disc Golf Round Of 2023 Workout.
First Round Of The Year
I am honestly a bit surprised by this, but yesterday I finally found my way onto a Disc Golf course for the first time in 2023. Yesterday I suddenly thought, “man, I haven’t tossed a round of Disc in a while…”. My UDisc app has my last scored round on November 4th. I have played a few unscored rounds since then, but for sure I haven’t been out since early December. We had quite a bit of snow, I got sick with covid and lost the first part of January, it was crazy-cold, we got more snow, and I just haven’t gotten out to throw lately. Before I know it, it’s February 2023, and this dude hasn’t thrown a round of Disc yet.
This was a problem I had to fix.
I went to my “ole standby/practice course”, “The Backyard”, the one and only, Moir Park. I tossed a quick nine and then walked the trail by Nine Mile Creek down to the Upper Loop and back to Moir. The sky was a bit overcast, but the temp was a comfortable 32-33 degrees (f) and the trails were busy with other walkers.
If that sounds cold, “a comfortable 32 degrees”. Let me tell you, it felt like a heatwave compared to the sub-zero temps we had a few days ago here in #Minnesnowta. It was like -16 degrees the other day! With windchill making it feel even colder.
So I finally got my first round of Disc Golf in for the year!

Why I Enjoy …
When I got to the park yesterday, it didn’t take long for me to remember why I enjoy Disc Golf so much. My first drive off the tee was a perfect, straight rip, right down the middle that landed 7 feet from the basket. Of course, I missed the birdie putt, lol! Then on the tee for #4, I ran into a couple of pairs of deer, making an evening pass through the park on a trail the deer use often, as evidenced by their tracks packing down the trail.
I am not sure if it was just the snow or getting distracted by two pairs of deer, but I lost my disc on the drive on #4. There is just enough elevation change that I couldn’t see the disc land from my drive. After walking through the area I thought it would be for fifteen minutes, I had to move on and call the disc a loss. *If anyone finds my blue Jade at Moir on #4, please call the number and return it to me.
On #8 I had a sweet ace run that missed the chains by about a foot. Made the birdie putt!
Then smacked a tree on the drive on #9 and bogeyed it. I blame the bogey on the tiny “baby” squirrel that was munching away on stuff up in the tree right above the basket. Totally distracted me. Dropping little bits of whatever he was munching on, right down into my putt path! LOL!
The Disc game took about 40 minutes for the nine holes. In that 40 minutes: I had a couple of near-perfect drives and a few silly blunders. I ran into four total deer, a red-headed woodpecker, and I got harassed by a baby squirrel! I had problems to solve and form adjustments to make. Technique and physically dynamic movements were used. Concentration, then lack of it, then the struggle to regain it was all mixed in. All of these things are reasons why I enjoy the game of Disc Golf.

Disc Golf = Zen Sport (for me)
I have said this before, Disc Golf is like my “Zen Sport”. It blends nature, exercise, dynamic movement, competition, problem-solving, imagination, and fun, all up into one. It is a way to destress and decompress for a while.
“Nature is like a medicine, like it literally is like a medicine to you.”
Joe Rogan

When on the disc course, I am not thinking about my stressful job and if I got everything that I needed to do done. I am not thinking about other stressful things in life.
On the Disc Golf course, I am thinking:
- What is the best flight path for this shot?
- Where is the wind blowing from?
- Is this shot going to hit a tree?
- Oooh look a baby squirrel!!
- Wow, a cool mushroom!
- “Oh, Hey there” two pairs of Deer, running almost up to me and then stopping 15-20 feet away as we both come towards each other on the same path. Let me walk off the track and let you all on through.
- Oh yeah, we’re playing disc golf.
- Don’t miss this putt.
- Remember your form.
- This one’s going to be an Ace
- Nope, that was definitely not an Ace.
- Except for twice. Twice it was an Ace! If you’ve done it twice, you’ve already proven you can do it again. So do it again already!
- Nope, that was definitely not an Ace.
- Swear words
- And the occasional, wow that shot did exactly what I wanted it to do.
Yep, I have all those kinds of thoughts while on the course. But then I control my breath, settle my mind a bit, and throw some good shots. And if I don’t have a good shot, I move on to the next one. If I lose a disc in the snow, I move on. Don’t get too up, or too down. If focus slips, reign it back in. You can’t change the last shot. You can’t see the next shot. Be in the current shot and execute your throw in it. See the throw, then throw the throw. #ZenSport
On To The Workout Schedule

The Daily Warm-Up – and goal to 100X
I will be doing my Daily Warm-Up routine every day this week.
I did it every day last week and have now done it 20 times. The goal is to do it for 100 days. I did skip one day since starting and may skip another here or there, but for the most part, am trying to do it on consecutive days.
Mon, Wed, Fri
On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I will be doing a spin bike workout, like the one below from the Global Cycling Network. On the same days, I will also be doing the next day in the 30 Days of Yoga series from Yoga With Adriene. I am on the Day 5 video this week.
Tue, Thu, Sat
Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday I will be mixing some of the RDX Fitness Bag work and some RBFTBs. The work will be two sets of Heavy Bag Tabata Burners, followed by two sets of RBFTBs.
7K Steps A Day
I am trying to keep up with getting about 7,000 steps a day, most days. After work and on the weekends I will be either hiking or rucking or maybe playing some Disc Golf. #7kstepsaday
OK, Dude, Wrap It Up.
There you have it my friends. Thank you so much for reading. Thanks to Global Cycling Network and Yoga with Adriene for the awesome videos to work out along with! I got a little break from playing Disc Golf this winter, but it was awesome to get back out there yesterday. Disc Golf is definitely my “Zen Sport”. Do you have something that gets you out into nature, lets you decompress a bit, challenges you, and is fun? If not, you should! Until next time, be happy and healthy. Be the Hero or Heroine in your story.
